Introducing the Lead Comply AI Governance Portal
Today we are opening the Lead Comply AI Governance Portal to the public. It is AI governance software for small business. It helps owners see where AI is used, set clear rules, and show clients that it is under control.
It is written in plain English and lines up with the international standard ISO/IEC 42001. You can start on the free plan today at aigov.leadcomply.com.au.
Why we built it
Most small businesses and organisations already use AI. Staff draft emails in ChatGPT, accounting software suggests answers, and website chatbots talk to customers. Very few businesses have written down which tools are used, who owns them, or what information is allowed into them.
At the same time, the expectations are rising. From 10 December 2026, there is a new privacy rule. Businesses covered by the Privacy Act must explain when software plays a key part in significant decisions about people. National AI standards are being developed. And larger clients, insurers and tenders are starting to ask suppliers how they manage AI.
The tools built for large companies are expensive, complex and full of jargon. Through our consulting work, we kept meeting owners who wanted to do the right thing but had nowhere simple to start. So we built one.
Lead Comply has spent years helping Australian businesses with AML/CTF and ISO compliance, including many real estate agencies. The lesson carries straight over to AI. A clear, simple system that people actually use beats a thick binder that nobody reads.
What our AI governance software for small business does
The portal brings the essentials together in one place, with each part feeding the next:
- An AI register: one list of every AI tool in use, with its owner, purpose, the data involved and a risk rating
- An AI use policy you can issue the same day: plain English, one page, editable, with version history
- Risk assessments without the jargon: guided questions in business language that give you a rating and a recommended control
- Staff training with sign off: short modules your team will finish, with a record of who completed what
- The automated decisions section for your privacy policy, drafted from your register and ready for your website before 10 December
- A one page governance statement you can export when a client, tender or insurer asks how you manage AI
For businesses working towards ISO/IEC 42001, the portal also supports a Statement of Applicability, internal audits and management reviews on higher plans.
Built for people who aren’t compliance experts
We designed the portal for busy owners and office managers, not compliance specialists. Every screen tells you what to do next. There is no matrix to fill in, and no consultant needed to get started.
Most businesses can go from nothing in place to a working register, policy and first risk assessments in an afternoon. There is also a free plain English course for anyone who wants to understand the basics first.
What it looks like in practice
Picture a bookkeeping practice with nine staff. The owner signs up on a Monday afternoon. The portal asks about the usual suspects, and the list grows quickly: a chat tool, an AI feature in the accounting software, a meeting note taker and a website chatbot.
Each tool gets an owner. The portal rates the note taker as higher risk, because it records client meetings, and suggests a check: no client meetings recorded until the storage settings are confirmed. The owner generates a one page AI use policy and sends it to the team before they leave for the day.
A month later, a larger client asks in a tender how the practice manages AI. The owner exports the governance statement and attaches it. The question that used to cause a scramble now takes two minutes.
Your records stay yours
Everything you record in the portal is stored in Australia, stays yours, and is never used to train an AI model. Lead Comply Pty Ltd is an Australian owned business.
How it lines up with the rules and standards
The portal follows the structure of ISO/IEC 42001, the international standard for managing AI. It also covers the six essential practices in the Australian Government’s Guidance for AI Adoption. These include naming who is accountable, managing risks and keeping a person in control.
That means the work you do in the portal counts twice. It helps you meet the expectations that apply today, and it builds the records you would need if you later go for certification. Our recent articles on whether AI is regulated in Australia and the OAIC’s automated decision making guidance explain the background.

Questions business owners are asking
Who is the portal for?
Small businesses and organisations in Australia that use AI tools and want a simple way to manage them. You don’t need any background in compliance.
Do I need to be covered by the Privacy Act to use it?
No. The privacy policy section is useful if the Act covers you. The register, policy, risk checks and training help any business that uses AI.
Do I need ISO/IEC 42001 certification?
No. Certification is voluntary. The portal follows the standard so your records are ready if you decide to go further, but you can get real value without it.
How long does it take to set up?
Most businesses have their register and AI use policy done in an afternoon. Risk assessments and staff training can follow over the next few weeks.
Can Lead Comply help us set it up?
